Soaring over 300 feet (90 meters) in the air, the dome of Florence Cathedral, Santa Maria del Fiore, dominates the city’s skyline. Completed in 1434, the dome is still one of the largest in the world.
In the 15th century construction of this kind had not been attempted since ancient times; but thanks to the ambitions of a flourishing city and breakthrough Renaissance engineering of Filippo Brunelleschi, the Cathedral dome broke all the records.
Climb to the top of the dome, marvelling at the stunning Renaissance mural lining the dome interior as your reach the top. Then, step outside for breathtaking views over the entire city.
